I wanted to share a few thoughts from my reading this morning.
-Jesus knew that he could not just disappear after he died, but rather continued to share time with those who loved him.
-The people still did not understand that Jesus’ kingdom was far beyond anything that man could establish. We are so good at setting up our own kingdoms and asking God to bless them…should we not look to see what God is doing and go join him there
-One of my favorite verses in scripture is Acts 1:11, “…why do you stand here looking into the sky?” This is such an indirect mode of communication and a missional verse.
-How bizarre Pentecost must have been, people watching them thought they were drunk…all the sudden you are talking with everyone and then the Spirit comes and transforms the gathering and the lives of all who where there. Is that not the same though when the Holy Spirit fills our life on a daily basis…conversation, actions, and thoughts should not be the same.
-Churches love the Acts 2:42-47 passage. We strive to be this community and seek the results of people being added daily. Gerhard Lofhink in “Jesus and Community” argues that the church needs to be a contrast society and simply put be itself. Now here is my red-flag. When I read the words “contrast-society” I immediately thought of every extreme right Christian church, leader, view, etc. but this is not even close to what Lofhink or Jesus would want. It is not moralism but being light, being love, being Jesus (an accurate picture) in this world.
