Leaves

We spent some time this afternoon outside.  It was a beautiful day!  Aubrey loves being outside.  She constantly looks around with such wonder and awe.

Aubrey needed a change of scenery the other day.

Roll

Aubrey learned something new tonight.  She has been trying over the past few days but finally got it down tonight.  Watch out world!

Stop

Two weeks ago, on Monday evening Joanna, Aubrey and I took the boat out for its last ride before taking it out of the water.  That evening we drove across the lake to pick up some friends for the ride.  The Wise’s, Suzie, and Peters were at a rented cottage.

After one slow trip around the lake we chose to take another lap but the amount of gasoline, or I should say the lack of gasoline prevented us from going anywhere.  There we were, in the middle of the lake, 8 people in the boat, no gas, no paddle and no one wanting to swim us in except for Suzie.

Someone mentioned it was ok to sit and maybe the engine needed rest.  We sat and rested.  I tried to start the boat again but to no avail.  I was starting to worry and was a little embarrassed at the situation.

As soon as my mind began to race, someone pointed out how beautiful the sunset was and that the moon was clearly seen.  The colors continued to change and the beauty was amazing.  We laughed and laughed and shared a priceless moment with each other.

Drew reminded me of something he shared with me the week before.  He said that it is important for us to stop when we know we need to because if we don’t, God will stop us for us.

Without a doubt that night God stopped us.  Sure I ran out of gas but God stopped us so that we could have a few moments of enjoying each other and his creation.

Eventually, I called our neighbor Matt who came out in his pontoon and towed us into shore.

Thank you Lord for stopping us at times.

30th

Have you ever had a birthday party and it wasn’t your birthday?

Josh and Kris

On Sunday we were able to celebrate my good friend Josh Bean’s 30th birthday although he will not be 30 until early 2009.  It was a surprise party because him and his wife were back from Philly for the weekend and their baby (currently being called Viper) will be born around his birthday.  No more birthday’s for Josh… :)

It was great to spend time with him and his family as they celebrated!  The Bean’s are an amazing family with such sincerity and heart.  I love reconnecting with Josh as he is the kind of friend where you can pick up where you left off whether that be one week or a year.

Happy early birthday Josh.  I’m happy to call you my friend.

Money

Economy crisis, bailout, stock market, etc.

If you watch TV, listen to the radio, or spend time on the internet you have heard that financially things are not the best.

I came across this site (www.globalrichlist.com)a few days ago which gave me great perspective…sometimes that is all we need.  Take a look at some of the numbers below.

If you make $1,000 a year, you are in the top 44% richest of the world

If you make $5,000 a year, you are in the top 14% richest of the world

If you make $20,000 a year, you are in the top 11% richest of the world

If you make $40,000 a year, you are in the top 3.17% richest of the world

Marshall, the town I live in has a median income of $53,317. That is in the top 0.96% richest people in the world.

The median income in Marshall is the 57,741,348 richest person in the world!

I know an American mindset…”there are 57,741,347 richer people, I have a long ways to go”.

Let’s look at it again…according to the world census there are 6,728,562,537 people in the world.  Therefore there are 6,670,821,190 people who are poorer than you are.

We need to count the blessings we have and understand, as individuals, there is a responsibility to the world.

Some overdue video from Homecoming.

7-2

OK, so that didn’t really happen last night.  I just thought it looked nice.  That’s right, the Cubs gave up 7 unanswered runs.  So sad.  Alright, tonight is a new night and another opportunity.

I’ve got my evening planned out…small group till about 8:30, Cubs on the TV at 9:30, Joe and Sarah arguing on my laptop…oh what a night.
